SAWS reports no outages from freeze; warns about residential frozen pipes

After two days of bitter winter conditions, temperatures are on the rise again, although there may still be some freezing temperatures at night, any frozen pipes on customers’ property will begin to thaw.

San Antonio Water System infrastructure did not have water outages due to freezing weather, but some customers’ pipes may have frozen. As pipes thaw, they should now be prepared to address water leaks.

If there is a leak, the first step is to shut off water at the meter.
(SAWS Be Ready video on how to do that is here: http://youtu.be/BYp_9JZQb3A )

  • Locate the shut off valve near your meter.
  • Remove cover and clear debris.
  • Rotate the valve a fourth of the way clockwise to shut off water.

Qualifying customers can receive emergency water leak repair assistance through Plumbers to People, one of SAWS’ Uplift programs for neighbors in need.
